An asset team needed to apply the results of a reservoir simulation to their on going efforts to operate the field. The engineers in the asset had little experience and access to the simulation software. The engineers were faced with taking a 3 day training class and licensing more software to visually analyze the simulation results.
Decisions:
- What areas of the field are best suited for in fill drilling?
- Is the model valid? Are there any obvious data busts?
- Are there any areas indicated in the simulation that contained high concentrations of oil that are not being produced?
- Where should I place new wells?
Spotfire Solution: Spotfire Analyst was already deployed and in use for other applications. To address this problem the engineers used Spotfire Analyst on the simulation model. The client was able to analyze the simulation model avoiding the costs and time lost training on a new software system. By using the 3D visualization (on 2 million records), client was able to identify several new well locations where “unswept oil” was located.
